Love Me. Love Me Mine

Poems from the Heart

My book “Love Me Love Me Mine; Poems from the Heart” is a compilation of poems, some have been revised and were taken from “Poems for the day,” my first book, which was dedicated to my Father Joseph William Carss.

This book is dedicated to my eldest daughter, the late and beloved Gwendolyn Leah Owen, who tragically passed on in 2014 due to complications of Addison’s Disease.

It has been a very sad time for my family and me, some of my poems will attest to that, but thankfully not all.

Thank you for reading my poems and sharing my experience, for it truly makes it all worthwhile. I pray you’ll be thoroughly, blessed, and I feel sure that many of you will be able to identify with my poems, and where I’m coming from.

About the Author

My name is Sherril Carss, I was born in Melbourne, Australia, the daughter of Mr.& Mrs. Joseph W. Carss, my dad was a Staff Sergeant in the Australian Amy, and a truly wonderful dad. He was unfortunately diagnosed with Schizophrenia and passed on in 1959, when I was just five, bringing deep grief to my mother, Mavis E. Carss and my elder sister Beverley and myself. Losing my dad, at such a young age has had a profound effect on my life, and it’s by the Grace of God, that I’ve survived to tell the tale.

I was bought up to attend Sunday School at St John’s Church of England. My mother had converted to Protestantism and so her Spiritual journey began. Mum was grieving deeply but courageously brought us up alone. I attended Tooronga Road State School in my primary years, and then went to Malvern Girls’ High School. My first job was at A.M.I.

I married young and had three beautiful daughters. The first one was the late Gwendolyn Leah whom I mentioned earlier, and then there were her  sisters Terasa Jo and Jodie Louise. Due to difficult circumstances, my marriages didn’t survive, but through them. I have been blessed with five grandchildren, who are all grown up now, the first one, and the only girl, is Jennifer; then Alexander, William, Daniel and Edward, all of whom are very much loved, and I’m very proud of them.

This is just a small snippet of where I bring my poetry from, as time and space won’t permit any further commentary, apart from becoming “Born Again” in 1983, with grateful thanks to God, working through the Mackay Baptist Church, for their loving and timely help, at a time, when I was a young mother going though great personal turmoil, unsupported and alone, and “On the Edge Gods people,“ The Baptist People helped pull us to safety, for which we will be eternally, Thankful.

The Travelling Monkey Lion

This is not another travel book that talks about historical museums and the ecological sights and sounds of famous landmarks. This book is about the deep truths that traveling reveals.

It is about the characters we meet and the unknown places we discover. It is about the hardships and the ecstasies that comes with risking it all to gain what no one else can take away from you – personal growth and life experience.

The content is based on true stories from my own personal experiences – documented stories from my travels over the past fifteen years. The book was written to encourage people to travel. It explains how travelling can enrich your life and excel personal growth. It is a travel memoir written to
encourage readers from around the world to make travelling a priority.

I hope that the book will motivate people to become a member of our travelling community, inspiring them to explore the world. I believe that the essence and truths in finding out who we really are, can only be found or at the very least excelled, by the wisdom and knowledge discovered through exploring the unknown. I have documented this through humor and a sense of realness, using an abstract analogy borrowed from the animal kingdom to set the tone.

I want this book to enable and encourage people to recognise and experience their own travelling ambitions. It should manifest the urgency to compile itineraries and plan trips that will enable them to discover or rediscover their true selves.

In summary this book is written for all the adventurers and should serve as a reminder that it is never too late to dream. God created this beautiful planet not for us to view from a safe distance but to experience it hands-on, meet new people, see places and make memories.

About the Author

Edwin was born in 1934 in Rhyl, North Wales. In 1960, as a musician he gained a posting with the Toronto Symphony orchestra and decided to travel through Europe, the Middle East and Australia on route to Canada. During his travels he fell ill and while recuperating in Australia he became enamoured and decided to stay. He combined his passion for music with becoming a successful business owner and he married and raised a family in Sydney, NSW. Laurel, born in Sydney in 1946, suffered a challenging family life. As a social worker she knew first-hand the difficulties that many people face in their lives and so her marriage to Edwin, along with her two children Jake and Natasha, this brought immense joy and contentment to her life. Neither Laurel nor Edwin held any strong religious convictions prior to when Laurel suffered a cardiac arrest in 1980 during major surgery. With Laurel’s amazing encounter with her Creator this brought huge change to her life and that of her family.Following a deep inner call this took them from their comfortable Sydney lifestyle to initially quite primitive living conditions in the Snowy Mountains of NSW where they founded a spiritual retreat centre. Within their deeply mystical experiences, immense workloads and early challenges, they then gifted their property in founding the charity, Elm Grove Sanctuary Trust where they welcomed and assisted all who came on a donation basis. In 1991, they formed a widely ecumenical community, the Little Followers of St. Francis and as life-professed Franciscans, they lived in deep trust and ‘by Grace’ as their vision unfolded. Their charity continues its work today.
