Bullied to Broken

This is Maddy’s story.

Much of her story is from her text messages and accounts to those she was close to. I am proud to be my daughter’s voice. This book has also become my story. Maddy, suffered bullying from a young age. This caused her severe mental health trauma and left her with self-esteem issues, panic attacks and anxiety. On 24 June 2018 Maddy took her own life, aged 23 years.

This book is intended to advocate for mental health awareness. Maddy lived in fear for much of her young adult life. Maddy had a high drive for perfectionism. Maddy was afraid to let people know of her mental health issues as she feared judgment by others. Maddy’s story will give an insight into how bullying effects the individual, the long lasting psychological trauma that it can cause. It is hoped that people who choose to bully can find empathy to cease the behaviour. It discusses strategies to cope with bullying, how to build resilience and ways to heal pain and grief.

Bullying is becoming an epidemic. Children are bullying in the school yard, and then through cyberbullying. There is bullying in workplaces and sporting organisations. There is often no respite for those being bullied. Many of those who are bullied have chronic mental health issues, increased risks of suicide, there is more burden on the health care system and exorbitant costs to the government, the cycle goes around and around. Writing this book has been a difficult personal journey. I hope that Maddy’s story will help others, then the journey would have been worth it.

Owning My Crazy

Most of us are just trying to get through the day, but paramedics are often extremely harsh on themselves. We have high expectations and feel a pressure to have all the answers. Add to this the training we receive from day one, to respond quickly, to be ever-vigilant, to ‘switch on’ without notice, and then make difficult logistical and clinical decisions, for an organisation that doesn’t seem to care for the carers when they fall, and we are all a recipe for disaster. Paramedics, firies and police have front row seats to the greatest shit show on earth. The question is not ‘why’ we break; it’s why it sometimes takes so long…

From high functioning, multi-tasking, goat-owning paramedic, to broken, blubbering mess on the side of the road, Kim’s journey through PTSD, anxiety and depression after 20 years as a paramedic has more ups and downs than a toilet seat.

This book is edited, conceived and distributed by affiliate publisher Tightrope Publishing.

About the Author

Born out of personal experience and the need for catharsis, Kim’s first title tells one Paramedic’s story of their journey through PTSD. The decision to publish was based on the desire to reach out to others who may be in similar circumstances and struggling or feeling alone. The current system dealing with the mental health issues related to emergency service workers is lacking, and if no one speaks up, things will not change.

Healing Depression

As the author of Whispers from the Angels I am pleased to say that I have been guided to write another healing book.

My journey through depression lasted many years and at times it was for me life threatening.  I know now that I have been one of the luckier ones to have come out of it on the other side by learning how to recognise and use my Life Tools.

Healing Depression Using Life Tools is a book that has at times been channelled to me from a much Higher Power and it has been written with great passion to show people that in time you can recover from an illness such as depression.

About the Author

The discovery of being able to learn to identify and access my own Life Tools to assist me through my journey of depression has been a truly enlightening experience as it has taken me from the darkness into the light.

We all have Life Tools, they are deeply entrenched within all of us and if we are able to recognise them and use them in a positive way they really can help us through all of those tough times in life.

A great deal of uncovered wisdom through my journey has taught me that we can empower ourselves back to a much happier and healthier way of life if only we would take the time to educate ourselves and learn to be more in tune with what our bodies are really saying to us in times of great stress.

The journey that I went through has taught me a great deal about myself, I would not trade what I went through now for anything in the world for it has taught me that no matter how deep the hurt in life there is always hope.  We do not need to travel through these really tough times alone.  There are always people out there who can assist us to manage our illness in a more positive way if only we will let them.

Faith, hope, and an innate belief in ourselves are powerful Life Tools and they play a major role in allowing us through time to become better.

Positive change will always promote positive growth and you can achieve wellness by accessing your Life Tools.  Empower yourself to a much more balanced way of life by learning that it is okay to love yourself.  Learn to value your life in a way that you have never done so before.

Never ever give up on hope!
