Star Dust n’ Mud

The book opens with an invitro remembrance by our author of a command to be born in order to love God.

Life is full of loss, gut wrenching grief and abject poverty of soul. Homelife is bitter, grievous and cruel. Age 12 she is evicted by her abusive father.

Our heroine is a child yearning for protection and genuine love, instead she’s afflicted with cruel, callous nurture from dysfunctional parents. Left to her own resources and free from any decent guidance she lives a tragic tale roaming haphazardly and hitch-hiking up and down the country.

She chances upon many unsavoury schemes and personalities that lead her astray far from light and hope of a normal life. At 19 years-of-age she becomes permanently damaged deep within her core by the death of her 4-month-old baby.

Like a tsunami this trauma compels her to keep moving. Journeying on, our central character builds her own cabin in the bush. Then comes a new spouse, more children, hardship and finally desertion. Back in the city, survival as a single parent is bearable.

Then the miraculous occurs…

About the Author

This is an unapologetic account of endurance through trauma and a true testament to faith. Lesley’s story begins before she was born and weaves a muddy tale of abuse, homelessness and death spattered with star-dusted experiences, unexplained rescues and soul-felt peace.

Lesley does not promise a pleasant read, but delivers a miraculous ending. In writing her story, Lesley hopes that you as the reader may find strength from her survivals.

Delilah’s Secret

“Delilah’s Secret is one of the most powerful books I’ve gotten my hands on in a long time. I loved and hated the characters so intensely, they were beautifully brought to life by M. L Martin. I was left thinking about them all long after each chapter. An important read, one that will leave an imprint on women especially.” – Lauren Shuttleworth, CEO & Founder of Words With Heart

Delilah is a small girl with a small secret—or so she thinks until her secret grows to control almost every aspect of her life. Silence ensnared her, silence keeps her trapped—yet silence may ultimately be her way out. Will Delilah ever find her voice?

It is the late 1980s, when Delilah’s mother walks out on their family. With her older brother at school, Delilah spends her days alongside her dad working the farm, mustering cattle, fencing and learning to track through the forest backing onto their property. Life for Delilah is perfect.

That is until her mother files for custody and wins. Now Delilah finds herself in a completely volatile living situation. Driven by a fiery determination to prove she isn’t a ‘nothing’, Delilah sets her goals on becoming a sporting champion. Just as she is finding her rhythm, making new friends, discovering childhood romance and feeling like she is somebody, Delilah is faced with life changing adversity.

It is a hard lesson to learn, but at eleven years old Delilah realises the only way to escape her living nightmare, is to become her own hero.

Delilah’s Secret is the story of an ordinary girl with extraordinary strength. It is a tale of love, friendship and a young girl’s courage to face her biggest fears.

About the Author

Sharing a love of horses with her mother, she handed Melissa a copy of The Horse Whisperer by Nicholas Evans. Exceeding 600 pages in length, her mother was not truly expecting her to finish reading it. At eleven years old, it was the first novel Melissa read from start to finish. Her love of reading and writing blossomed from there. By the age of twelve, Melissa had written several short stories, poems and a new alphabet – a secret code invented to write letters to her friends.

In 2010, Melissa graduated from Southern Cross University with a Bachelor of Education. She became a teacher to ensure that no matter how good or bad a child’s home life was, they could come to school and feel safe, loved and valued. However, year after year she was witnessing signs of children suffering from various degrees of abuse and neglect. She could not sit idle while these children desperately needed a voice. Hence the birth of Delilah’s Secret.

A Lawyer in Paradise

This book is dedicated to my fellow travellers: my wife Lee, and my children Ben, Kimi and Sam, and also to the Samoan people who so enriched two years of my life.

Although I refer to a number of trials in which I appeared, this is not a comparative analysis of the legal systems of Australia and Western Samoa; rather, those trials have been included for their human, as distinct from their forensic, interest only.

Nor have I set out to examine in minute detail the broad sweep of Samoan life or to venture into the Margaret Mead/Derek Freeman debate.

Instead I have simply recorded some of the adventures and misadventures of expatriate life. The passage of time and the vagaries of memory since I left Samoa some 32 years ago have, I am sure, softened the rough edges of some experiences and otherwise impaired my recollections but if some memories may have been enhanced a little, or some names now escape me, I hope that is of little significance.

About the Author

A Lawyer in Paradise proves that Robert Anderson is an adept author – its epilogue, a poignant poem, is written by Rob. Also an accomplished artist, one of Rob’s paintings features on the cover.

A Day in the Deli

Hampden Deli is borne of the philosophy that chefs and guests should understand where their food comes from and that praise is owed to the people who grow, raise and source the produce, for without them a chef would be nothing. Hampden Deli is a community which extends well beyond the borders of Kangaroo Valley, Australia and now into your kitchen with more than 50 recipes.

A Day in the Deli cookbook features signature dishes from 5am – 11pm by hatted Chef Nick Gardner.

About the Authors

Nick and Stevie have created Hampden Deli, Dining and School to be a learning and flexible dining hub with a fine dining quality. A place that can take local farming produce, picked fresh that morning, turned into a great product and sold that afternoon. A process that can be shared with their guests and done again the following day with a completely different freshly picked product. For them Hampden Deli is an exciting venue that leads itself to many possibilities, catering, take away deli goods, produce dinners, guest chef degustation dinners, pop up and private events. Beyond this Hampden Deli has a desire to teach and share its knowledge. With a high level of trained staff and expertise in the business, Nick and Stevie have a shared goal to pass on their knowledge in the cooking school as well as internally within its employees. They are working in association with Nowra TAFE towards creating their own “Head Start” program helping community members gain hospitality skills. This program will give employees an employable skill set and greater chance at gaining employment within the community. Be sure to come down and show your support to our Head Start trainees.
