The whole dynamic of the group is affected and they need to adapt.

The mere survival of our worlds depends upon these unknown fighters for justice and peace.

Of all the Australian states, South Australia has most loudly perpetuated the historic myth that it was convict-free. But although it was not a destination for transportees, convicts and ex-convicts arrived in their thousands and helped build the new province. One of those was Billy Freeman.

This is the true tale of a child convict who, after suffering the horrors of gaols and prison hulks, arrived alone in New South Wales aged just 13. Having laboured to gain his freedom, he then undertook an arduous cattle drive to South Australia with pioneer explorer Charles Sturt, and lived a hard farming life – confronting fire, economic depression and family tragedy – in the Adelaide Hills. All the while, Billy lived in the shadow of official discrimination, and he continued to have brushes with the law, even facing gaol again, with his wife Sarah, in middle age.

Based on official records, the notes of family members and published histories, Billy’s story is that of an unsung pioneer battler. It’s a tale of determination and toughness, from a brutal childhood to making a new life in an often harsh environment.

About the Author

Alan Atkinson is a freelance author and editor based in Adelaide. A former journalist, he worked extensively in print media in Australia and overseas before joining the ABC. He won several awards for his investigative work and was named SA Journalist of the Year in 2004. He won a Walkley commendation and praise for Three Weeks in Bali, his eyewitness account of the 2002 Bali bombings. The Trials of Billy Freeman is his second book.

Founded by a combination of broking, accounting, insurance, and legal, combined with a world class superannuation system, the proposition of the adviser continues to evolve, moving from ‘below the line’ (money, products, investments etc) to ‘above the line’ (advice and strategy to help people make smart decisions about money) – or, as I say, from product to people, and from money to meaning.

Efficient and effective investment-linked and Group Self Annuitised (or GSA) lifetime annuities have only become available after legislation has made it possible to invest superannuation money into these products in 2017.

These new products offer “longevity insurance” like guaranteed life annuities, but without locking in low investment returns, and allow the same investment choices as superannuation members have enjoyed through ABPs. By intergenerationally transferring the balances of members who pass away to survivors, they allow the survivors to enjoy a much higher standard of living at a lower risk of running out.

I believe the advice proposition of the future is moving to adviser, coach, educator, mentor, project manager. Combining strategies to increase income, decrease expenses, reduce taxation liabilities, protect assets, ensure security in any catastrophe – in order to achieve all that’s important to them and to live their best possible life… People want to live their best, with confidence. They want to live rich, not to die rich.

I commend the work of David, Peter, Jim and their team in the vision and leadership they have shown to painstakingly drive this necessary and important change into our market, for the betterment of current and future retired Australians.

I am Magic

A desire for inner peace

An idea that I couldn’t get out of my head until I wrote it all out and put it on paper. Being an Aries and manifesting generator, I lose interest and get bored of things easily but for some reason this obsession with birthing this creation just didn’t leave. So, I knew I was on the right path. I’m not going to lie and say it’s been easy; I’ve been triggered heaps and I have avoided and procrastinated a lot because I had so many limiting beliefs blocking me that I have been able to work through.

Why me? How could I make this more than just an idea? You are not good enough to be this person?

I was so fixated on the negatives and the idea of it selling and making money from it. That energy never felt right with me or the reasoning behind it. So, I changed my perspective after doing some reflecting and realised this was healing me a gift to my inner child. Because I am the most important person in my world, I deserve everything I dream of and so much more. To have no one to follow in their footsteps is extremely difficult, but it’s also so empowering because I get to choose who inspires me, I get to inspire myself and even more importantly I get to create a world exactly the way I want it to be. I get to be everything I ever needed someone to be for me.

My self-worth has grown, my capacity to be seen has grown, my capacity for action and output has grown, my self-belief has grown and my desire to have it all feels possible.

So, this is a gift to you, your permission to believe, and your permission to follow your heart to find your own inner peace.
