I Choose Country

The fascinating memoirs of an authentic aussie man, his treasured family and life in the outback. A riveting story told with warmth, wisdom and humour.

Award winning Journalist: Lia Harris.

A true story of adventure and adversity from school in Adelaide to the wheat growing mallee country of Eyre Peninsula, to the Queensland racing industry, and on to the cattle industry in the Kimberley and the many adventures, achievements and pitfalls to overcome along the way. Spiced with international business in Indonesia and Saudi Arabia.

About the Author

I have always worked hard and tried to achieve and to accumulate an asset that my children could make use of and that they would be proud of also. Maybe I have been too focused on the material aspects of life and work instead of recognising the dangers of too casual an approach to the business side of any project and the greed of other parties I may have trusted and been involved with. (There are many of these). I have still not achieved all I wished for, but have lived a full life and am rich in experience, history and family.

Star Dust n’ Mud

The book opens with an invitro remembrance by our author of a command to be born in order to love God.

Life is full of loss, gut wrenching grief and abject poverty of soul. Homelife is bitter, grievous and cruel. Age 12 she is evicted by her abusive father.

Our heroine is a child yearning for protection and genuine love, instead she’s afflicted with cruel, callous nurture from dysfunctional parents. Left to her own resources and free from any decent guidance she lives a tragic tale roaming haphazardly and hitch-hiking up and down the country.

She chances upon many unsavoury schemes and personalities that lead her astray far from light and hope of a normal life. At 19 years-of-age she becomes permanently damaged deep within her core by the death of her 4-month-old baby.

Like a tsunami this trauma compels her to keep moving. Journeying on, our central character builds her own cabin in the bush. Then comes a new spouse, more children, hardship and finally desertion. Back in the city, survival as a single parent is bearable.

Then the miraculous occurs…

About the Author

This is an unapologetic account of endurance through trauma and a true testament to faith. Lesley’s story begins before she was born and weaves a muddy tale of abuse, homelessness and death spattered with star-dusted experiences, unexplained rescues and soul-felt peace.

Lesley does not promise a pleasant read, but delivers a miraculous ending. In writing her story, Lesley hopes that you as the reader may find strength from her survivals.

Girls are Pearls: One Woman’s Act of Resistance to Despair

Heather Anne Bloom must be read with a couple of health warnings! First of all, the narrative of her life will make you re-examine your own, or at least that was so when I sat and read this book. She writes with such a measure of self reflection and self understanding, and with doses of humour about the circumstances that led her to India, and to doing something about her particular passion for promoting the well being of girls and young women. Her story is a salutary reminder that adversity offers no excuses, and the much more is yet to be done if all are to have the opportunity to live with dignity and develop their God given talents. Yet it shows that the efforts of one with a band of friends can make a real difference. There is a lightness of touch about the way Heather speaks of her achievements that is at once attractive and challenging. This is a book that will warm your heart while at the same time make your armchair less comfortable !

And the second health warning? It’s this: read Heather’s story and you will want to book your own flight for an adventure in India!

Field of Miracles

A young Brian Jefferies had an unshakable faith in God. And it seems his career choice was God driven, taking him to places seldom traveled. As a sheep breeding consultant in demand, he rode on the “sheep’s back” to remote corners of the globe. It was in these far flung parts that he was empowered to share his faith and saw the miracle power of Jesus work time and time again. His experiences across the globe are testimony to the power of faith in a God that “is the same yesterday, today and forever.” Today, wherever a senior Brian Jefferies goes, he continues to inspire confidence in a God “that can make a way where there is no way.” In so many ways he’s still breeding sheep… but not of the natural kind. Brian’s stories are sure to encourage and make bold disciples of Christ everywhere and spark faith in a loving God in the coldest of hearts.

Black and White: Between the Lines

My story is about my heart being torn between two worlds, even at a young age, I remember the struggle was there within me, those strange feelings inside of me, not knowing what the feelings were? Who am I?

About the Author

Growing up in the early days, being poor, it was a time when you went without many things, but having a family to share everything with, we all thought having each other was all we needed.

I was brought up as a Catholic. I remember going to church every morning with a lovely lady Mrs. Davis, rain, hail or shine and this was how I found my Christianity. This changed my life; the Lord became a very important part in my life and is still in my heart today.

I realised as I got older I knew I had to do something with my life; otherwise I would never amount to anything.

During my working life, I have always treated everything I did as a challenge. I always set myself goals, I can now look back at my career, which was over a period of 30 years and know that I have achieved what I had set out to achieve.

I knew there was something missing in my life; this was when I decided to start researching for.
