About the Author

Zack Ferguson was born and raised in Perth, Western Australia where he lives with his family. He is an ideas man with a bizarre sense of humour and a love for creativity, music, and potentially voice acting. He is also a drummer, playing since he was six years old, and a part-time mash-up artist on YouTube and Instagram, who spends way too long perfecting his craft. In his early years he enjoyed creating games on a website called Scratch, but eventually realised that he was much more interested in telling the stories he made for them. Zack’s love for storytelling and creative writing grew throughout high school, where he finally found inspiration in his final year to put pen to paper to write his first novel: The Billionaire’s Club.

There’s a Monster on my Shoulder

…there’s a Monster on my shoulder, and he’s never, ever kind. He whispers things inside my ear that scare my anxious mind…

If there was a monster on your shoulder telling you scary things would you know how to make it go away? This is a story about just that! But beware…this monster is tricky and cheeky and definitely doesn’t want to leave you alone!

Erin Joy Bernardi, self-published author of 'There's a Monster on my Shoulder'

About the Author

I am a Teacher, qualified and experienced in both Primary and Early Childhood Education. I am also a Mum. It is my experiences in these roles that compelled me to write this book. Every day I see more and more children suffering with anxiety – be that very mild or quite extreme. To some extent, everyone suffers from it in one form or another. It is particularly hard to converse about anxiety with young children and explain exactly what it is in a way that helps them understand and cope with it. My hope is that this book can be a very effective tool in doing this. I also hope that it can enhance childrens understanding of who they are at their essence. Help them know that the thoughts that circle around their minds are not them, that they are the ones aware of those thoughts and as such can exercise much more choice about them.

W.E. West : Recollections of a Life in Early Orange

This book is an autobiography but more importantly it is a Social History of the Orange district in the words of one of its residents.

Willie Edwin West (1886-1974) was a well-known resident of Orange during its formative years and was a Canobolas orchardist. Two of his many skills were as a horseman in his younger years and a raconteur in his later years. In the mid-1960s he sat down and recorded reminisces of his life. The tapes laid idle for 55 years and have now been brought back to life. Did all the events recorded take place? Probably! Did all of the conversations take place as recorded? All most certainly not!

W E West had five sons and one daughter: Jim, Russell, Bruce, Brian, Howard and Winifred. As his recollections focused on his adventures there have been two important additions in this book. Firstly, two documents prepared by Winifred in 1999 have been included. There is a brief outline of the family and her recollections of family life in Orange until her marriage in 1945.

The book concludes with an Honour Roll as each of his sons served in various capacities during World War II. Russell and Brian both paid the supreme sacrifice. This section includes details of their war service and a brief history of the units in which they all served.

Harmonisation of Anti-Fake News Legislation in ASEAN

Computer & Internet Law

This book tackles one of the scourges of our digital society, typically termed ‘fake news’, where false information is disseminated widely, often to promote extreme ideology or particular political views. Dr Smith picks apart the legal mechanisms used in the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) that addresses fake news. Following discussions of the nature of fake news, the author provides a framework to assess the effectiveness of fake news in light of the legislation and its use in Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines, and proposes a model law for ASEAN to provide a balance in maintaining values of free speech whilst addressing the promulgation of untruths. This work provides useful insights into the nature of fake news and how nations can start to address an issue that will grow in impact in the coming years, whether in major Western jurisdictions or small regional groups. The observations and analysis in this book, and the understanding of the impact on society of misinformation, will give all readers pause for thought, and insight into a serious issue for today.

Twenty Voices of 2020

In early 2020, life as we knew it changed.

In Twenty Voices of 2020, Jo Fuller takes us to one small corner of the world to see the human impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, sharing the stories of 20 people in her community in Melbourne, Australia, but in their words – the school principal, the policeman, the pilot, the nine-year-old school girl, the doctor who lives up the road.

Their stories tell of real events, real emotions, and they also tell of a greater shared story; that in forcing us to experience some things differently, 2020 offered us the chance to experience something more. Our gratitude for the small things, for the simple things, for the previously underappreciated and even unseen things deepened. Our sense of community evolved too, becoming stronger than many of us had ever known.

Like a thread, the stories of the 20 voices weave through our common experience of navigating a year that changed the world and in so doing, they ultimately stitch us together upon a fabric that is so much greater than ourselves alone.

Charles Washing & Racist Furniture

The history of Charles Washing, his family, and furniture business is fascinating reading. The plight of Charlie’s parents, a full-blood Chinaman and an 18-year-old English Jewess in the 1850’s, escaping their respective homelands and settling in Ararat, Victoria, is difficult to comprehend, but it’s true. Raising 10 kids against the odds, we follow the journey to Creswick, Melbourne and finally Perth where their sons, driven by Charles set up Washing Brothers Furniture Factory. The Factories Act was a desperate attempt by the Government to eradicate Asiatic businesses pressured by Unions and European businessmen. To survive meant risking everything by breaking the law, dodging government inspectors, and even beating the Supreme Court. It was the birth of racist furniture.
