Star Dust n’ Mud

The book opens with an invitro remembrance by our author of a command to be born in order to love God.

Life is full of loss, gut wrenching grief and abject poverty of soul. Homelife is bitter, grievous and cruel. Age 12 she is evicted by her abusive father.

Our heroine is a child yearning for protection and genuine love, instead she’s afflicted with cruel, callous nurture from dysfunctional parents. Left to her own resources and free from any decent guidance she lives a tragic tale roaming haphazardly and hitch-hiking up and down the country.

She chances upon many unsavoury schemes and personalities that lead her astray far from light and hope of a normal life. At 19 years-of-age she becomes permanently damaged deep within her core by the death of her 4-month-old baby.

Like a tsunami this trauma compels her to keep moving. Journeying on, our central character builds her own cabin in the bush. Then comes a new spouse, more children, hardship and finally desertion. Back in the city, survival as a single parent is bearable.

Then the miraculous occurs…

About the Author

This is an unapologetic account of endurance through trauma and a true testament to faith. Lesley’s story begins before she was born and weaves a muddy tale of abuse, homelessness and death spattered with star-dusted experiences, unexplained rescues and soul-felt peace.

Lesley does not promise a pleasant read, but delivers a miraculous ending. In writing her story, Lesley hopes that you as the reader may find strength from her survivals.

A Day in the Deli

Hampden Deli is borne of the philosophy that chefs and guests should understand where their food comes from and that praise is owed to the people who grow, raise and source the produce, for without them a chef would be nothing. Hampden Deli is a community which extends well beyond the borders of Kangaroo Valley, Australia and now into your kitchen with more than 50 recipes.

A Day in the Deli cookbook features signature dishes from 5am – 11pm by hatted Chef Nick Gardner.

About the Authors

Nick and Stevie have created Hampden Deli, Dining and School to be a learning and flexible dining hub with a fine dining quality. A place that can take local farming produce, picked fresh that morning, turned into a great product and sold that afternoon. A process that can be shared with their guests and done again the following day with a completely different freshly picked product. For them Hampden Deli is an exciting venue that leads itself to many possibilities, catering, take away deli goods, produce dinners, guest chef degustation dinners, pop up and private events. Beyond this Hampden Deli has a desire to teach and share its knowledge. With a high level of trained staff and expertise in the business, Nick and Stevie have a shared goal to pass on their knowledge in the cooking school as well as internally within its employees. They are working in association with Nowra TAFE towards creating their own “Head Start” program helping community members gain hospitality skills. This program will give employees an employable skill set and greater chance at gaining employment within the community. Be sure to come down and show your support to our Head Start trainees. The Five and Ten Men

TEN MEN WHO REDEFINED DISTANCE RUNNING

The story of ten men who helped define modern distance running.

The modern era of distance running, which began in the early part of last century, has been characterised by ever faster times and new records as the limits of endurance have been continually re-defined. The world records of today would have been largely unimaginable to previous generations of runners.

The classic events on the track for distance runners are the 5,000 and 10,000 metres, and over the period covered in this book, the world records have been reduced by over two minutes for 5,000 metres, and five minutes for the 10,000 metres. The records for both distances have been broken many times by many runners from a wide variety of countries.

However, despite the similarities in the physical requirements for each of the distances, only ten men have succeeded in breaking the world record for both events, making for an extremely select group. The group comprises runners from Finland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Russia, Australia, Kenya and Ethiopia.

Each came to the sport in a different way, reflecting both the era in which they competed and the country in which they were born. This book looks at these individuals, their sporting careers, the way they trained, their personalities, and the times in which they competed. It is the story of ten men who changed what was thought possible in the field of human endurance.

About the Author

I have always been interested in distance running. Not quite sure why. It is certainly not because of any great ability on my part. On the distance running continuum I would place myself as average – not completely hopeless, but a long, long way from world class. My only ever decent run was somewhat tainted – being disqualified (later re-instated) after winning the state marathon title many years ago. The crime? Wearing the wrong coloured shorts. Let’s just say that my interest and enthusiasm for the sport far outweighed my ability.

It is this interest, and the wish to impart something of the history of the sport that brought me to the point of writing this book. The subjects chose themselves. Of the many record holders over the classic distances of five and ten thousand metres, there have only ever been ten who have held both records. Were it to be a book on the ten greatest distance runners the list would probably not be much different. Each in their own way played a significant part in showing just what was possible, and in so doing raised the bar for those to follow.

I often say that the hardest world record to break or gold medal to win is the 100metres, simply because probably just about everybody at some stage runs a 100m race. If you have some ability it is going to become apparent pretty early. Training will build upon whatever natural ability is present. The distance events are probably not far behind. Requiring little in the way of equipment or facilities, just about anybody can find out fairly easily if they have an aptitude for the sport. That of course is the easy part. The hard part is maximizing what ability they might have.

Let My Voice Be Yours

Let My Voice Be Yours. Domestic Violence: A Survivor’s Guide For Every Woman

The distressing statistic in Australia is that nearly every week one woman dies from domestic violence. Imagine how many heartbroken parents, grief-stricken siblings and bewildered children are left behind with a gaping hole where their loved one used to be.

From the Author

My Story

Everyone has a Story – this is mine…My story began when I moved to Australia with my family from the UK 17 years ago, in search of a better life. Happily married at the time I did not expect to be divorced and diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD) 10 years later after my husband attacked me and left me for dead.

For a long time afterwards I was overwhelmed with various emotions that took their turn of being in charge of my decisions, my behaviours and the way I communicated with the world. I felt worthless, hurt, betrayed, rejected, fearful, anxious, anger, guilt, and sadness. These emotions had imprisoned me and held me in my suffering. Everything was a struggle; every day was exhausting and I felt very isolated. I cut myself off from all my friends and moved house, I didn’t feel safe and I didn’t know who I could trust.
It was at that time I started to question “why me?” “Is this really how the rest of my life is going to be?” “What is the meaning of my life?” “What do I do now?” Even though I had been hurt, I still knew that my life’s purpose was to help others. Having been a nurse for a long time now, I was drawn to find a way to help people heal from their negative life experiences. I wanted to understand why people do what they do, to help me comprehend how someone who was supposed to love you, would try to hurt you. I found Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) by chance. You know when you see something and then you move on but you keep going back to have another look? Or that thought that keeps nagging away at you? This is what happened when I came across EFT, so I went along to find out more. That first session was so powerful in highlighting where my limiting beliefs about not being lovable were coming from (and it wasn’t from my ex-husband) I was hooked. EFT has helped me heal physically, psychologically and emotionally from the trauma I suffered.

It has opened my world to an expanse of possibilities. Embracing and investigating my negative emotions to situations instead burying them deep and trying to ignore them. This easily learned technique has helped me to rediscover my true authentic self – that beautiful, innocent, fun loving, cheeky little girl I once was.

I have found the parts of me that had been hidden, lost and beaten down. Those same parts of me that shine proudly today guiding the deep, delightful, expansive life I am now living. I was so inspired by the results I was getting and continue to achieve, I decided to become an EFT Practitioner. I want to bring this powerful emotional healing technique to others. By working as an EFT Practitioner, I help others understand that there are benefits to the suffering we encounter in our lives, because life happens in balance. For every negative experience, there is a positive lesson to be learnt, you just need to be open to receiving it. I know this is a hard concept to grasp when your whole being is oozing feelings of sadness, unjust and rejection. I truly believe my marriage and everything that happened is the best thing that could have happened to me in the bigger picture of my life. I no longer see the day I was attacked as the day I nearly lost my life – it is the day I got my life back.

The Power of Baking with Mindful Intent

The Power of Baking with Mindful Intent is an 84-page softcover book that is the perfect companion to your me-time cuppa. With practical mindfulness exercises accompanying each cake recipe it is a must-have book for all small households who like a little cake with a cuppa.

About the Author

Hi, my name is Caroline and I’m a food lover, keen cook, seasonal food fan and Thermomix owner among many other things. And I live in a single person household.

I’ve created this site for those who cook just for themselves. It is a mix of recipes, tips, thoughts and reflections on cooking just 4Me.

Did you know that single person households make up nearly a quarter of the households in Australia and this proportion is rapidly increasing? Yet most cookbooks present recipes that serve 4-8 people!

To me, that means eating the same dish for 3 nights in a row only to throw out the remainder as I just can’t face the dish again! My other option is to freeze the leftovers for another time.

However, years of freezing for another time have taught me that another time never comes when I clean out the freezer three months later and throw out untouched frozen leftovers.

While in theory, it’s easy to just ‘quarter the recipe’, in practice that is not so easy and becomes a little too much on a busy weeknight when you’re trying to cook a healthy dinner for yourself after a long day at work. When you’re trying to beat the voice in your head that says, in very caring and convincing tones, “Why bother? It’s just you, it’s too much work, grilled cheese on toast will do for you.”

Owning a Thermomix has completely changed my life. It has opened up new ways of cooking to me, which has resulted in me rethinking cooking. It’s helped me realise that I’m not cooking for one, I’m cooking just for me!

What’s the difference? The difference is I’m worth the effort. By following the four rules of cooking just for me I’ve found a healthier and happier time preparing meals.

When I reflected on cooking just 4Me I realised it was more than just about finding recipes for one. There were four things to consider.

1) Doing the numbers for one

2) Working the progressive ingredient

3) Winning the 30 minute challenge

4) Showing me love and respect

The aim of this site is to share my cooking just 4Me principles, tips and recipes and I trust that in doing so that you, like me,  will enjoy creating everyday surprises just 4Me…..  I mean you!

The just4Me Bake Club is born

After writing the ‘Cooking for You and Me’ cookbook for Thermomix, which has been massively popular I felt I had weeknight dinners sorted and I started a journey to find the perfect cake to have with a cuppa in a size for Me.

As I’m not a baker, I decided I would learn to be one.

Three years on, I’m feeling much more like a baker plus I’ve created a huge collection of cake recipes that I’d love to share with other just4Me bakers. And that’s why the just4Me Bake Club was created. And you don’t need a Thermomix!
