Transforming Lives

God’s Love Through ALPHA in Prisons

This book chronicles the extraordinary journey of a retired civil engineer who heeded God’s call to minister to prisoners. After 42 years in engineering, Bernie embraced a new path as a chaplain, running Alpha courses in Prisons. This book recounts his transformation and the profound impact of Alpha on the lives of inmates. Through heartfelt testimonials, prisoners express their gratitude and newfound faith. With over 500 prisoners completing Alpha at six prisons in Western Australia to date, the ministry has witnessed remarkable spiritual awakenings. The narrative also highlights how spiritual transformation can reduce crime and recidivism, advocating for a rehabilitation-focused prison system. Bernie’s story encourages readers to step out in faith, promising an adventurous journey filled with blessings and purpose in serving the Lord.
Enjoy and be transformed!

Transforming Lives Book Cover

About The Author

BERNIE O’LEARY HAS had an amazing and awe-inspiring journey, over the last 10 years, running Alpha in Western Australian Prisons.

The Lord specifically led him into this ministry, after a 42 year career as a Civil and Water Engineer, with nothing to do with Prisons in his life! Bernie is the Alpha Prisons Ambassador – Western Australia, with Alpha Australia.

He has seen about 540 prisoners doing Alpha in WA, so far (at 2024), and seen many prisoners coming to the Lord, and being transformed.

This book has also shown the results of some overseas initiatives, in major focuses on spiritual transformation and rehabilitation, rather than only a custodial focus.

These have shown huge reductions in number of prisoners, and recidivism rates.

He has said that this whole journey continues to be an incredible adventure, with huge eternal impacts!
